Singapore citizens can take advantage of up to 70% funding to study a Sustainable Maritime Operations degree thanks to the MPA Singapore’s Maritime Cluster Fund (MCF)Training Grant.

Valid for the year 2022, the funding is open to applications from new students, existing students and those that have graduated less than a year ago.

The information below will tell you everything you need to know, from finding out if you are eligible to how to apply and which degrees are certifiable through this scheme.

Am I eligible for the MCF Training Grant?

To qualify for the MCF Training Grant you must be a Singapore Citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident for the duration of your studies.

You can check your eligibility by using the MPA Singapore’s online Self-Assessment Checklist here.

Which MLA College degree programmes and certifiable through this scheme?

The degree programmes that are on the approved list of certifiable courses are:

BSc / BSc (Hons) Sustainable Maritime Operations

MSc Sustainable Maritime Operations

Can you tell me the eligibility criteria for these programmes?

As part of the admissions process we look at previously achieved qualifications and/or relevant industry work experience.

Students are admitted to the BSc / BSc (Hons) Sustainable Maritime Operations if they have the equivalent of a UK Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma (Polytechnic Advanced Diploma) or equivalent level. If a lower or no qualification is presentable students can still apply on the basis of relevant work experience. We would be looking for a minimum of two-three years experience. Certificate of Competencies are also taken into account.

Students are admitted to the MSc Sustainable Maritime Operations if they have the equivalent of a UK Bachelor Degree (Singapore Bachelor Degree) or relevant work experience (for example Master Mariner).

Applicants with no maritime related qualifications and/or work experience may still be eligible to apply. A personal statement clearly explaining the motivation for applying to study Sustainable Maritime Operations (e.g. career change) must be submitted with the application. Applicants accepted to the programme via this route will be required to undertake an eight-week Sustainable Maritime Operations Access Course (SMOAC) before starting their programme

You can view the full entry requirements here.
