Iain Slade


Iain is currently a Survey Trainer with Fugro Academy (primarily based at their Training Centre in Plymouth). He is a graduate of University of Plymouth – MSc Hydrography (FIG/IHO/ICA Category “A” Course) and also has a BSc (Hons) in Ocean Science. His current teaching portfolio covers a broad range of topics reflecting his experience, knowledge and skills gained in a wide range of roles across the Hydrographic Industry.

Iain began his Career as a Marine Cartographer at UKHO, quickly moving into survey data analysis as a Bathymetric Appraisal Officer in the Seabed Data Centre. From there he moved into civil engineering at a number of commercial consultancies mainly in the nearshore /coastal, civil hydrography and port sectors.

A move to Fugro expanded his capabilities going further offshore exposing him to site surveys, debris surveys, geotechnical investigations, rig moves, ROV construction, inspection and routine maintenance work.

Iain Lectures during the practical residential modules EHYD105, EHYD 503 and EHYD 506.

A Plymouth resident Iain lives with his wife Pippa and has two boys both under four - so most of his free time is focused on them. He enjoys many outdoor activities and considers himself to be a former surfer!
