Professor John Chudley Takes up Role as Chair of Engineering Council
MLA College’s Rector, Professor John Chudley, CEng IMarEST, has officially been appointed as Chair of the Engineering Council, the UK regulatory body for the engineering profession.
The appointment took place at the Engineering Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the 22nd June 2023, seeing John take over from Professor Chris Atkin CEng FRAeS FREng, who has been Chair for the past six years.
Nominated by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), John has served on the Engineering Council’s Board of Trustees since 2017 and chairs the Registration Standards Committee. He was appointed as Vice-Chair of the Engineering Council in 2021, including supporting the implementation of the Engineering Council’s 2025 Strategy.
John is honoured to take up the role and said: “I am passionate in developing professional routes to registration having started my career as an apprentice; this is not to undermine academic and graduate training routes, but to value equally, alternative opportunities befitting the requirements of today’s society. For this reason, I feel it is a priority to further develop the initial work of the “Registration Working Group” to ensure registration, and registration levels, is fit for purpose and valued by generations to come; as well as being attractive to a wider registrable audience. This can only be achieved through working in partnership with the broader engineering community.
Staff at MLA College would like to congratulate their Rector on this achievement.
